Why I Stamp:

To make a difference in our world.  To make a difference in my world. Trump is trying to become a Dictator, and there’s a feeling that we can’t do anything about this insanity.  Well, we can. We can protest & protest by stamping our money and circulating it.  Hopefully, we can change minds and overturn Citizen’s United.  Corporations are NOT people.  It’s so ridiculous, it makes me crazy.  This makes me more sane & in control.

Tips for Fellow Stampers:

1. Circulate bills without spending any money – Find a bank, or more likely credit union, that supports the Stampede and will let you deposit stamped bills. Or, find a financial institution with ATMs that will accept stamped bills for deposit. Once you have one of those, just pick up a few bundles of 1’s from the bank, stamp them all while you watch TV or whatever and if you don’t have a need for them, every one of can be deposited right back to your own account, while also put into circulation – no spending required. When you spend stamped money at a receptive business, remember to shop there again. Also, ask of the store would like to buy stamped bills for change. Some are into it enough that they prefer the stamped bills, others are just glad to save a few trips to the bank for change, either way you’re circulating bills without spending money.

2. Spend more bills while spending the same amount of money – Spend big bills on small purchases to get more small bills, use a bunch of small bills for medium and large purchases. Be aggressive about using almost exclusively cash, including big stacks of 1’s any time you don’t get a sense that you will get resistance (or maybe sometimes if you are in the mood for a bit of resistance… Keep a separate wallet with pre-counted bundles of 20 & 50 1’s to ease larger purchases.

3. Stamp, don’t track – If you are moving from or adding to wheresgeorge activity, welcome and ignore the rest of this.
As far as I know there is no policy, and feel free to play this game and all others in life as you see fit, but assuming you evaluate “winning” to be creating political change, consider:
The reporting mechanism is a bit clunky and tedious, an entire $100 bundle of ones can be stamped in the time it takes to report just a few bills, meaning at least a 20x gain in productivity by not reporting your own bills.
I am a bit suspicious of how they come up with the estimated number of impressions per report or per stamped bill, but I think it’s fair to say that more people will see the bill you stamp than will see the report of the bill you stamp. If 875 is right and you are extremely generous and think 40-some people may see the report of your bill, that’s still another 20x impact on how many people see your work.
Finally, there’s audience. A bill you stamp could reach anyone at any time. The person buying coffee or selling drugs or whatever maybe had no interest in this at all until they saw your bill and went to the website to report it and got drawn in, learning about the movement or maybe even becoming a new Stamper! On the other hand, anyone seeing the report of your bill other than you will be almost certainly another person who is already a Stamper. In a sense you’re showing off your preaching to avid readers of the choir magazine. I think it’s fair to say that 20x would be conservative, however you might quantify this factor.
Taking all those assumptions, it’s pretty clear that it’s likely at least 20 x 20 x 20 or 8,000 times more useful to spend your time stamping bills than reporting your own…
