Why I Stamp:

I stamp because I want politics to be about politics, not about who can throw the most money around.

Tips for Fellow Stampers:

Be prepared to spend extra time at the cash register! In my experience, many employees aren’t sure whether or not they can accept stamped bills and will opt to ask their superior before proceeding with the transaction. I haven’t had any place reject my money; however, if you’re really in a hurry or are having a stressful day, you might want to opt for using your debit or credit card instead, or keep some un-stamped bills in your wallet.

Some auto checkout stands can’t read your bills! As much as I love using the self checkout lane, a good many of them do not recognize my stamped bills. In fact, this has happened frequently enough that I no longer use the self checkout lane when using cash.

Be mentally prepared for nonsense, and take names! It’s one thing when the employee isn’t sure about taking your money. It’s quite another when a cashier tries to shame you for your stamped bills (despite them having no idea who stamped them!). Or tries to tell you that stamping bills is illegal. Or tries to tell you that a stamped bill is worthless. If you find yourself being given a hard time like I have on occasion, make sure to note the name of the employee, find the store’s number on your receipt, and Google how to register a formal complaint with the store in question. Or, if you’re bolder than I am, ask for their manager and make your complaint known right away.

Don’t get discouraged! Sometimes you’re going to have people laugh or make snide remarks about your stamped bills. It happens. It sucks. But you know what? They saw your message. Maybe they didn’t get it, but they saw it… And that’s what really matters.
